Films   Information TAUBE FOUNDATION'S JEWISH HERITAGE TOURS THE OTHER EUROPEANS European project   Friends		Fiddler on the Hoof (1992) Simon Broughton This film tells the story of the Jewish klezmer revival. Most of it is filmed in New York and at KlezKamp, the annual gathering for enthusiasts of Yiddish culture in the Catskills. But there’s also footage from Russia and intimations of the growing interest in Jewish music in Eastern Europe, which has taken off since the film was made. With atmospheric musical performances, a real New York Jewish wedding, and pre-war archive footage, it gives a clear picture of where klezmer has come from and where it is going. The documentary includes performances by some of the very best players, including Giora Feidman, Don Byron, Di Kapelye, Brave Old World, Joel Rubin, The Klezmatics, Gregori Schechter and others. Interviewees include Henry Sapoznik, Michael Alpert, Alicia Svigals and old-timers Sid Beckerman, Howie Lees and, in rare archive footage, Dave Tarras... back
