The history of Jews in Comics: From Krakow to Krypton

Arie Kaplan (USA)

Clips from comic book-based movies like X-Men (2000; the opening sequence takes place during the Holocaust), Superman (1978), and American Splendor (2003) would be shown, as would clips from documentaries like Comic Book Confidental and Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked. The lecture is a story of personal journey as an author, and what drove him to write From Krakow to Krypton. The lecture is a story of the process of creating the book – interviews many legendary comic book artists/writers like Art Spiegelman (creator of the Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel Maus), Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider- Man), Joe Kubert (Yossel: April 19, 1943, a graphic novel about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising), and Al Jaffee (creator of the Mad Magazine, Fold-In and so many other comics and magazine features).
